Juan C. Velez, DNP, MSN, PMHNP-BC

Director of Licensed Professional Program

Juan Carlos Velez, DNP, MSN, PMHNP-BC. Juan completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of Arizona in Tucson.  He received his combined Masters of Nursing and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from Florida International University in Miami, graduating with honors. He obtained his BSN degree from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida.

With a multifaceted background, including several years in the airline industry, Juan incorporates important skills such as resiliency, flexibility, teamwork, and compassion to his clinical practice. Juan started his clinical career at a level-one trauma center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he was able to gain valuable experience in multiple patient care arenas. Having witnessed firsthand the unmet mental health needs of the patient population in an urban hospital environment, Juan became passionate about community advocacy and the importance of mental health awareness and education. He began to focus his career on areas of mental health and chemical dependency. Juan’s dedication to his patients has earned him both national and  international merit recognition awards for his clinical skills, leadership, and compassionate care.

Having served as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Juan is experienced in treating a wide range of mental, emotional, and behavioral health conditions. His practice approaches include using multiple evidence-based therapies and modalities, medication management, and Integrative Medicine.

Juan celebrates diversity and his multicultural background. Being bilingual, Juan is able to provide services in both English and Spanish. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and experiencing new places and cultures. He also enjoys hiking, exploring the Sonoran Mountains, and gardening. Juan joined Sierra Tucson in 2018.
