Carol Burns-Wortham, MA, LPC
Primary Therapist
Carol Burns-Wortham, MA, LPC, began working at Sierra Tucson in 2019 as a primary therapist in the Trauma Program. She believes in the resilience of individuals and is humbled by the strength and healing she witnesses daily at Sierra Tucson. She uses multiple approaches in her therapies, such as CBT, DBT, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and others, in order to meet individuals where they are on their journey to wellness and healing. She began her career in academic counseling, working with college students who were on academic probation. She then transitioned into working in mental health, first in a women’s shelter working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, followed by several years of working as a therapist in the community. She has helped children, adolescents, and adults focusing on trauma, relational difficulties, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, and other concerns. Carol also has taught counseling courses at the college level and provided supervision to counselors-in-training.
Carol received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Saginaw Valley State University, and her Master of Arts in Counseling from Oakland University. In her spare time, Carol enjoys reading, spending time with her partner, and experimenting with different forms of artistic crafts, such as sewing, drawing, and painting.
