Sierra Tucson Team Raises Money for National Alliance on Mental Illness

Sierra Tucson staff, internationally recognized for their compassionate care and clinical excellence, participate in NAMIWalks.

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) April 16, 2013

Earlier this month, the staff of Sierra Tucson, a premier treatment center committed to helping people recover from addictions, mental/behavioral disorders, and chronic pain, demonstrated their compassion and joined the community to raise funds and awareness for mental illness through NAMIWalks Southern Arizona.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community of hope for all of those in need, according to the organization’s website. The walk events support their mission.

The Sierra Tucson team joined many other local Arizona companies and organizations in the walk. Holly Joubert, Psy.D., Manager of Sierra Tucson’s Psychology Department, coordinated staff participation.

“This is a wonderful cause and we were proud to participate,” said Joubert. “The walk was also fun and created camaraderie among our staff as an added bonus. On behalf of Sierra Tucson, we look forward to taking part in events like this in the future, to raise awareness for important causes.”

Underscoring the vital need for organizations of this type in the U.S., the NAMI website explains, “Mental illness affects everyone. Nearly 60 million Americans experience a mental health condition every year. Regardless of race, age, religion or economic status, mental illness impacts the lives of at least one in four adults and one in 10 children across the United States.”
“People living with mental illness need help and hope: they need a community that supports them, their families and their recovery. Because mental illness devastates the lives of so many Americans, NAMI works every day to save every life.”
