TUCSON, AZ–(Marketwire – Feb 9, 2012) – From February 1-5, 2012, Sierra Tucson hosted the Fourth of Four Modules of Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT®) Training, in conjunction with the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP).
This experiential training was facilitated by Patrick J. Carnes, Ph.D., CAS; Kenneth Adams, Ph.D.; and Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S. Forty-four U.S. and international therapists participated in the Module 4 Training, which was held over five days at Sierra Tucson and the Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort in Tucson, Arizona.
Susan O’Day, M.S., ICADC, CMHP, EAP, Family Program Therapist at Sierra Tucson and one of three Sierra Tucson staff members who attended this training, strongly endorses the benefits of the entire CSAT® certification and training, specifically Module 4. “This is a fabulous opportunity to learn the latest evidence-based interventions for appropriate treatment planning and implementation,” said Susan. “There is an explosion of knowledge about what Sexual Addiction is and the brain science (neurochemical and brain function) aspects of this disorder. Knowing how to use the testing instruments that have been developed greatly improves the quality of treatment.”
CSAT®-certified addiction specialists are recognized as experts in the field of addiction therapy. This advanced training, facilitated by IITAP, gives practitioners a cutting-edge advantage and new insights about addictive and compulsive behaviors.
IITAP is an organization dedicated to providing educational resources for practitioners who treat people with addictive and compulsive sexual behaviors. The CSAT® program is one of the most highly regarded programs of its kind. IITAP shares knowledge about sexual compulsion and offers networking opportunities for those involved in the field of sex addiction therapy. IITAP is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, and 30 CEUs were awarded for this Module 4 Training.
“Sierra Tucson is pleased to provide this advanced training for clinicians,” states Christi Cessna, Sierra Tucson’s Director of Clinical Outreach. “This is the final training module toward becoming a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. Modules 1 – 4 have all been hosted at Sierra Tucson, beginning in the fall of 2010, and we plan to work with IITAP to provide these training sessions again.”
